چکیده
The effect of ACTH, adrenaline, noradrenaline, insulin, parathormone, hydrocortisone, and glucagonon the homeostaticmechanismcontrolling serum glucose, citrate, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium was studied in fasting rabbits and children. Citrate levelsare kept in balancebyACTH, adrenaline, and glucagon, which raisethe levels, and by insulin, which lowers them. Stressalone raisescitrate levels, probably through adrenalineand ACTH effects. Calcium levels in rabbits are markedly lowered by ACTH, given l.M., to tetany levels. Adrenaline hasa similar, but mild, effect. I. M. parathormone raisescalcium levels slowly. ACTH and parathormonemay be the antagonists in keeping calcium levelsconstant. Insulin, adrenaline, ACTH, glucagon, and parathormone lower phosphate levels. Major factors in lowering phosphatelevelsacutely evidentlyare insulin, which moves phosphateinto the cell, and parathormone, which movesit through the kidney. Insulin, adrenaline,ACTH, and glucagonlower potassiumlevelsin the rabbit. Only noradrenalinecausesa significant rise. In the normal child only citrate movesin the samedirection (elevates) as in the rabbit after ACTH.

A Rabbit Serum Calcium-lowering Factor from the Pituitary.
A factor has been shown to exist in ACTH fractions of porcine pituitaries which lowers serum calcium levels markedly when injected intramuscularly in the fasting rabbit. The lowest value is usually reached in 1.5-2.5 hr. and returns to normal in 5-6 hr. It has been demonstrated that the activity of this material is independent of the ACTH activity of the preparation and is distinct from the pit...

In order to investigate the relationship between insulin to glucagon ratio and metabolic factors in transitional period of dairy cows, 28 cows heifers with body condition score of 3.25- 3.75 were selected. Dairy cows received close up diet, from 21 days prepartum until parturition and lactation diet according to nutritional requirements after parturition. Blood was sampled at 10 days before and...

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of four weeks aerobic training on serum glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in women with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Materials and Methods: Twenty T2DM patients (33-53 years) were randomly assigned into control (n=10) and experimental (n=10) groups. The main intervention included running on treadmill, reaching 55 to 80% o...
متن کاملDesigning a glycemic control strategy to maintain glucose homeostasis and prevent hypoglycemia for subjects with type 1 diabetes
This paper presents using the fractional PImDn controller module which manipulates insulin infusion rate to maintain normoglycemia in subjects with type 1 diabetes. To prevent severe hypoglycemia, a conventional proportional controller is used to regulate glucagon infusion rate when the blood glucose levels fall below a threshold. Two sets of controller parameters are obtained and evaluated. Fo...
متن کاملThe Effect of Intravascular Injection of Ghrelin on the Mean Plasma Concentrations of Insulin and ACTH in Immature Camels Fed with Diets Containing Different Levels of their Energy Requirements
Introduction: Ghrelin is a peptide hormone secreted from the stomach with both endocrine and paracrine effects. Ghrelin and its mRNA as well as growth hormone (GH) secretagogue receptor mRNAs are expressed in the pancreas and islet cells and regulate insulin release. Also the immounoreactivity of ghrelin is proved to be high in the hypothalamus and parts of the brain responsible for the re...
